Having a website does little good if you're hiding below Page 1
Having a website is a great first step. But it's just that: The Beginning.
Gaining Google's trust is a process that takes time and effort. Their algorithm has become incredibly proficient at putting quality data on page 1 of their results for just about any keywords search. They have gotten very good at filtering out non-authoritative sites.
In order to do this, they've made it increasingly difficult for people to fake it and hack their way to the top of the rankings. This is great.
But it also means that the only way for trustworthy, authoritative website to make it to the top is to apply persistent effort directed by a very smart strategy.
In short, you don't want to do it alone...
Search Engine Optimization, put simply, is fine-tuning your website to rank at the top of search results for relevant keywords.
Of course, you could go find an SEO guy on Fiverr, or Upwork. But all it takes is a quick Google search to see that most are scams or use "black hat" techniques. Black hat SEO methods sometimes produce good short-term results, but end in Google penalizing you once it finds out. And it will. It always does.
Instead, we use tried and tested methods that have the approval of the Google team. While the specifics are a bit more complicated, it really boils down to creating quality content that engages the right readers, and then sharing that content across the web. In time, Google will notice and your site will start ranking higher.
SEO almost always takes time to see genuine results. How long it takes depends on just how competitive the keywords you're targeting are. But, with the right strategy, there's always an improvement.
